Originally coined "noche oscura del alma" by the mystical Saint John of the Cross, the Dark Night of the Soul is a period of total spiritual desolation, disconnection and emptiness, as we become aware that our past way of life never fills the void, although we do not know where to follow.

Recorded during the pandemic crisis between March and June 2020, this album is the testimony of the 103 days that André Xina was retained in the city of Naples, Italy. While being supported by local friends Xina took the opportunity to create Nzungu, in a mixture of feelings of quietness, anxiety and euphoria during the different stages of lockdown.

Nocturnal and hazy, this album is an emotional response, or a kind of initiation that reaches a raw and truthful depth, maybe corresponding to a universal experience we are passing through right now. The ambience can feel uncanny and hopeless, but progressively emerges a warm sense of faith that pushes us for self consciousness. As St. John wrote, "the endurance of darkness is preparation for great light".
